Head to Westport, Co. Mayo this September to get your seafood fix with Ireland’s newest seafood festival.
The Tower’s Bar & Restaurant is proud to announce our inaugural Seafood Festival from Friday 20th until Sunday 22nd. September. It’s sure to be a fantastic weekend for foodies, seafood lovers, live music fans, and families – something for everyone!
Tom Bourke the proprietor of the Tower’s will be pleased to welcome you all. Speaking about the festival he said: ‘we really wanted to give something back to the local community, to bring people together, and to celebrate the richness of the sea and our maritime heritage here at Westport Quay. The Tower’s is all about promoting fresh quality seafood dishes, and we hope you’ll try some Moule Eclades, some Oyster & wine tasting pairings, Chef Jack Duffy’s famous seafood paella, and enjoy some great entertainment!’
All the events for the weekend will be centred around a large Festival Marquee in the Tower’s beer garden. The weekend kicks off Friday evening with a talk from Bronagh Joyce of the Clew Bay Heritage Centre on the infamous ‘Clew Bay Disaster’ of 1894 followed by a guided walk of the Quay’s intriguing maritime history.
Jeremy Ossard of French Market Ltd. will be presenting a live oyster and wine pairing demonstration and then kick back in the evening with lush jazz from famous Westport trio ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’.
On Saturday an action packed festival programme will include seaweed foraging at Roonagh Pier, a foreshore clean-up at Westport Quay with Westport Tidy Towns, with the highlight undoubtedly being the ‘Moule Eclades & Wilbur Mussels’ live cooking demonstration with Sean Coyne from Connemara.
Sunday will have more of a family-feel to the day with some fun and creative activities for the children, well-known Chef Jack Duffy cooking his famous seafood paella in the afternoon, and a speedy oyster competition with a difference and live music the evening.
