Two of Dublin’s popular swimming spots, Sandymount and Dollymount Strand, have been put under a temporary swimming ban following sewage washing up on the beaches.
Dublin city council placed the ban yesterday evening as a precaution after heavy rainfall led to sewage from the Liffey to wash up on shore.
The council is not certain how long the ban will remain in place. Samples have been taken and an update will be released when the results come back on Monday.
With the heat heading for the high numbers this weekend and people flocking to cool down in the sea this is unwelcome news for swimmers.
