This May Bank Holiday weekend explore Ireland’s greatest lighthouses with the Shine a Light on Summer Festival. The festival takes place at six of Ireland’s most spectacular lighthouses in some of the most jaw-dropping coastal locations that the country has to offer.
Fanad Lighthouse
Start the summer festival season with music, dancing, crafts, culinary treats, technology demonstrations, lighthouse tours and plenty more! This is a fantastic celebration our Ireland’s maritime heritage and a great way to discover the history of these lighthouses that serve a vital role in maritime safety around our coast.
Each location will offer immersive storytelling telling, the best locals crafts, music and fun! This is a great opportunity to get the best behind the scenes look at how these lighthouses operate with experts from the Commissioners of Irish Lights, who operate many of the lighthouses on our coastlines.
Hook lighthouse
The festival will take place at six spectacular locations around the coast. Join in the fun at Valentia Island Lighthouse, Co Kerry with fun activities, treasure hunts, competitions, talks, workshops and more. Explore the world oldest operating lighthouse at Hook Head in Wexford.
Take an unforgettable boat trip out to marvel at the stunning Fastnet Lighthouse in Cork. Learn the exciting history of the Loop Head lighthouse, Co. Clare, that dates back to 1670 with family-friendly events, tours and storytelling.
Visit Ireland’s most unusual, ‘upside-down’ lighthouse on Rathlin Island Co. Antrim, and see if you can spot some of the amazing resident seabirds that inhabit the island. Experience Fanad Lighthouse Co. Donegal, voted one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world!
