Rathlin Sound Maritime Festival | 24th May – 2nd June 2019

The Rathlin Sound Maritime Festival returns from the 24th May to the 2nd of June with 10 days full of maritime history, the best of local food and top notched events in the heart of the Causeway Coast between Ballycastle and Rathlin Island.

The festival is centred on Rathlin Sound, the body of water that lies between Rathlin Island and Ballycastle. This is the perfect celebration for anyone with a passion for the coast and with an action packed programme of events you’ll be spoiled for choice. There will be BBQs, workshops, walks and talks, exhibitions, boat trips, films, markets, kayaking, pirates and so much more!

For the food lovers don’t miss out on trying the best of local seafood and cuisine. Take the Ballycastle Food Tour or visit the artisan market to get some local treats. A major highlight will be the Ulster Chowder Championship. Skilled chefs will compete in front of a live audience and the winner will go on to the World Famous Kinsale Chowder Cook Off 2020.

For maritime lovers there will be plenty of opportunities to dive in and explore the rich maritime history of the area with exhibitions, traditional boats, guided walks and tours, traditional music and more.

Rathlin Island is a sanctuary for birds with tens or thousands of seabirds including kittiwakes, razorbills, guillemots and puffins visiting each summer and the surrounding waters are teeming with all sorts of marine life.
