LÉ William Butler Yeats rescue 109 people in first Mediterranean Operation

The LÉ William Butler Yeats rescued a total of 109 migrants from the Mediterranean yesterday in their first rescue operation since being deployed last week.

The Irish naval vessel was deployed earlier this month to join the relief effort and to relieve the LÉ Eithne.




Following a request from the Italian Maritime Rescue Co-Ordination Centre, L.É. William Butler Yeats successfully located and rescued a total of 109 people yesterday North East of Tripoli.

They were transferred on board the ship and given food, water and medical treatment.
