An abandoned cargo ship has been discovered washed up on the rocks at Ballycotton, Co. Cork following strong winds from Storm Dennis on the 15th and 16th February.
The vessel, the MV Alta, appears to have drifted thousands of miles over more than a year, from the south-east of Bermuda in 2018, across the Atlantic Ocean before reaching its final resting place in Cork.
The UK navy had an earlier meeting with the Alta in September 2019 out at sea:
Two weeks ago we reported the discovery of MV Alta, an apparently abandoned ‘#Ghost #Ship’. 👻⛴
Having investigated our find we discovered that this ship was abandoned 12 months ago after the crew were all safely rescued. 🌊🚢🇬🇧
