An elderly man fishing on the shore yesterday afternoon in Clare was airlifted by the Irish Coast Guard to safety after he fell into the sea.
The elderly man who is in his 70s had been shore angling near Black head Lighthouse in Co. Clare when he lost his footing and fell into the sea around 2pm. He was quickly taken out of the water by his fellow fisherman and was monitored by a local EMT and nurse until members of the Doolin Coast Guard arrived on scene.
The man was assessed by paramedics and was then stretchered to safer ground where he was airlifted by R115.
This was the second call out for the day for the Doolin Coast Guard. They were tasked earlier to assist a casualty with a suspected sprained ankle on the cliff path. The team assessed the injured woman and stretchered her to an awaiting ambulance.
