Tommy Schlather, who was visiting relatives on Achill, discovered the drugs taped up in plastic on the rocks last Thursday. The package was about the size of a cassette tape and covered in black and yellow tape.

After the discovery Schlather notified Gardaí who took the package away. They later confirmed that it contained about 1kg of cocaine with an estimated value of €50,000.

No other suspicious packages were found in the area and Gardaí believe it may have been part of a larger consignment of drugs that fell into the sea off the Irish coast.
