Doolin Coast Guard Station Renamed in Honour of Hero Coast Guard

The Doolin Coast Guard station has been renamed the Caitríona Lucas Coast Guard Station in memory of one of their volunteers who died tragically while on a rescue operation last year.

On the 12th September 2016 Caitríona Lucas lost her life in a terrible tragedy while taking part in a search and rescue operation off Kilkee.

Her family attended the memorial ceremony on Saturday and her two children Emma and Ben unveiled a special plaque which is mounted on the front of the station. Caitríona’s husband still is an active volunteer at the station and was involved in a search and rescue operation just hours before the memorial ceremony.

A small memorial garden has also been erected on the grounds of the station in memory of Caitríona.
