Record number of Irish beaches awarded the prestigious Blue Flag award

This year’s Blue Flag beaches were announced earlier today at a ceremony in Bray with a record 83 Irish beaches and seven marinas achieving the prestigious award.

Seapoint, Dublin Once again receives a Blue Flag award

The internationally recognised eco label award signifies that beaches and marinas awarded the flag meet a high set of standards for water quality, safety, beach management, information and education.

The number of sites receiving the Blue Flag in 2018 is up two on last year’s total. All beaches and marinas that received the award last year have retained it for another year.

This is the first time Carne in Co Wexford has been awarded the status and Ardmore in Co Waterford has regained the award for the first time since 1997 after a completion of a new wastewater treatment plant in the area.
