Clean Coasts annual Big Beach Clean weekend is just around the corner with lots of beach cleans happening from the 16th – 18th September. An immaculate Galway beach The way it should be

Each year Clean Coasts hold this annual event to raise awareness about marine litter and actively get the public to do something to help. Clean Coasts are once again joining with the International Ocean Conservancy for their International Coastal Cleanup. This means that by joining a beach clean you will be part of the world’s largest coastal clean up event – joining thousands of ocean loving people around the world and making a huge impact to helping the problem of marine litter.

Last year an impressive 800,000 volunteers in 94 countries took part. They removed a staggering 8,164 tonnes of marine litter that would have otherwise been destined for our seas and oceans.

The sad truth is that over 10 million tonnes of litter gets washed into our oceans each year and this has a devastating and sometimes irreversible effect on marine life and plants. We desperately need to turn the tide against marine litter and by taking part in a beach clean you can help!
