The Baltimore Wooden Boat Festival is a real treat for sailors and boat lovers alike and this years promises to be another great event. The festival runs from the 27th – 29th May and is a celebration of the traditional timber sailing boats of Ireland. The weekend event includes a number of races and talks that will showcase traditional Irish wooden boats.
The real aim of the festival is to encourage the appreciation and celebration of the tradition of wooden boat building. Ireland has a long history of boat building from early hide covered boats of our first ancestors, to the iconic Currach and Galway Hooker. An integral part of our heritage and the tradition, what better way to encourage and develop a broad interest in the preservation of this ancient tradition than with a festival.
What makes this festival even more exciting is it’s run in conjunction with the Baltimore Seafood Festival so there will be the best food and drink Baltimore has to offer in the restaurants and bars. Food tents will line the pier serving up some of west Cork’s finest fish and local produce.
The Baltimore Wooden Boat Festival & Seafood Festival runs from 27th to 29th May.
