A solo yachtsman was rescued by the Irish Naval Service yesterday when his boat got into trouble in difficult conditions off Cork
The yachtsman was sailing a boat he had purchased in the UK back to Ireland when his navigation equipment failed and his vessel began to take on water and sink.

The 26-year-old Irish man issued a mayday alert and fortunately the LÉ James Joyce was on a Maritime Security and Defence Patrol in the area. Mine Head Coast Guard Station contacted them and they promptly came to the aid of the man.
Arriving on the scene they launched a Rigid Inflatable Boat was launched and the man was taken on-board. He was then winched to Coast Guard Rescue 117.
