The exciting Round Ireland Sailfest, which takes place every two years, returns to Wicklow town on the 17th – 19th of June and the festival promises to be something special.
The festival centres around the Volvo Round Ireland Yacht Race, Ireland’s largest offshore race and it attracts world-class sailors from around the world. The race officially starts on Saturday afternoon when over 60 boats will depart on the 704 nautical mile race around the island. Thousands of spectators will see the yachts off but after they have sailed away there is still plenty of activities to enjoy back on land.
The festival will open with a fire works extravaganza Friday night with live music and entertainment. The festivities will continue Saturday with family fun and activities at Blackcastle. There will be so much to keep the little ones busy with face painters, children’s games, performers and a vintage car display. The fun will continue into the evening with bands taking to the Sailfest Gig Rig at 7pm.
This year the festival is being run alongside the Taste of Wicklow which will be on Sunday in the Abbey Grounds. There will be the best local food, top chefs including Neven Maguire, Rory Morahan, Paul Kelly and Derry Clarke, demonstrations, tastings, artisan market children’s entertainment and so much more.
