Severe weather conditions shut down search for Arklow fisherman

Searches continued over the weekend for the missing Arklow fisherman Lenny Hughes. Hughes fell overboard off a fishing boat early Wednesday morning and a major search ensued involving three branches of the RNLI, the Irish Coast Guard helicopters and the Irish Naval Service vessel L.E. Orla.

The official search was stood down after 48 hours after the incident. But the dedicated volunteers at the Arklow RNLI continued their search for the man throughout the weekend. Since Wednesday the teams conducted a long and extensive search of the sea and coastline North and South of Arklow and along the Arklow Bank.

Unfortunately the severe weather conditions forecast for the next 72 hours will prove too difficult for the search to continue.
