Plans put forward to create an urban beach in Tralee

An exciting new proposal could see Tralee marina turn into a premiere adventure tourism destination. Local business owners from Wild Water Adventurers made a presentation yesterday to Tralee Municipal District with plans to develop an urban beach in Tralee.

The plans envision Tralee as an exciting centre of marine tourism. The marina and canals have so much potential for watersports such as kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and raft racing as well as the introduction of other activities such as seafood trails. These were a few possible avenues for development the pair put forward in their presentation.

The venture could bring a new level of tourism to the town and be a great source of employment and breathe new life into the canals and fill up empty units at the marina.  Tralee is in the perfect location along the Wild Atlantic Way, which has already proved so successful. Becoming an adventure tourism destination would be a great way to lure in the tourists who will then stay and spend in the town while creating a series of new jobs and business opportunities.

But before any decision can be made the canal area is in need of an upgrade. The pathways to be made more accessible to all users and plans are already in place to repair the canal gates at a cost of €20,000.
