LÉ Samuel Beckett back home in Cork after Mediterranean mission

The LÉ Samuel Beckett has returned to its home port at Haulbowline, Cork after deployment in the Mediterranean.

They set off in September on ‘Operation Pontus’ – the Defence Force’s humanitarian operation to rescue people attempting the dangerous Mediterranean crossing by boat. This was the ship’s second deployment there.

The tough challenges they faced everyday on their life-saving mission in the Mediterranean was broadcast earlier this week in the excellent documentary The Crossing. If you missed you can check it out on RTE player.
