L.É. Samuel Beckett rescues 112 people off Tripoli

The Irish Naval Service vessel L.É. Samuel Beckett recovered 112 people yesterday afternoon from the Mediterranean Sea north east of Tripoli. This was following a request from the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.

L.É. Samuel Beckett located the rubber vessel during a search and rescue operation and took 40 migrants on board before recovering a further 72 and bringing them safely on board MV Aquarius.

L.É. Samuel Beckett has been deployed in the Mediterranean since September to assist Italian Authorities in the humanitarian search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean.
