Coast Guard Emergency | Injured crewman rescued from tanker off Mayo

The Irish Coast Guard coordinated a long range Medevac last night of an injured crewman from a merchant vessel 350km from the coast of Co. Mayo.

A crewman was injured on board a merchant tanker that was sailing through the Atlantic Ocean 400 nautical miles (around 740 km) off the Irish coast when the alarm was raised.

The rescue was a joint effort between the Irish and UK Coast Guard. The Malin Head helicopter R118 was called into action while backup was provided from the UK Coastguard helicopter. The man was airlifted to safety early this morning and brought to Sligo where he was taken to Sligo University Hospital.
