Island news | Increased helicopter service for Tory Island

Seán Kyne TD, the Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs, has announced that the helicopter service for Tory Island has been expanded. Starting now the service will run weekly rather than on a fortnightly basis. This is welcome news to the islanders who have been seeking these increased helicopter service for some time. The agreement was reached following discussions between the minster and the HSE and Irish Helicopters.

Making the announcement, Minister of State Kyne said that he was pleased to have been in a position whereby his Department could fund the expanded service.  “I am pleased that my Department has been able to reach agreement with the HSE for an enhanced helicopter for Tory Island.  The winter months can prove to be quite challenging for the population of this island and I am satisfied that the additional helicopter services will be a source of comfort for the community.  I would like to thank the HSE, Irish Helicopters and my officials for the work that they have undertaken to bring this agreement about.  I hope to be able to visit Tory Islahd in the near future,” said the Minister.
