Caitríona Lucas

Caitríona Lucas will be honoured and remembered for her bravery and dedication. She will be given the posthumous award of Clare Person of the Year 2017. The award will be presented at the annual Clare Association dinner in the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon on the 25th February. This is the first time the award has been given posthumously.

For 10 years the mother of two served as a member of the Doolin Coast Guard Unit. She was extremely dedicated and took part in several rescue missions. On the 12th September she was one of three volunteers who were out on a search and rescue mission off Kilkee. The boat capsized in rough conditions and the other two volunteers were rescued. Tragically Caitríona lost her life.

The community is still shocked by the tragedy. Caitríona was much loved and heavily involved with the community. She dedicated much of her live to maritime activities and promoting water safety.
