A new and uniquely located ‘escape room’ is coming to Dublin. The phenomenon of escape rooms started a few years ago and involves a team of people entering a room and working together to solve puzzles against the clock with the goal to escape the room.
The fun team-building aspect of the rooms has seen their popularity soar and now a new escape room is planned that hopes to stand out from the rest with its curious location on a barge on the Grand canal.
The team behind the venture have traveled around Europe and tried the best of them and have come up with this novel angle that they hope will set their game apart.
They’ll be refitting a Dutch Barge, the Zorg Ella, which dates back to 1916. The first room plans to be based on a 1920s ship and they’ll be decking out the escape room with antiquated props and objects they sourced from Holland to give it an authentic feel.
Ronan Brady, the man behind the project, has teamed up with Irish Ship and Barge Fabrication to refit the barge. The ship was brought over by ferry to Dublin earlier this week and is temporarily berthed near the Jeanie Johnston on the Quays.
They hope to be up and running in Spring of this year on the Grand Canal Quay. To keep up to date with the project visit www.escapeboats.ie
