Early yesterday morning a number of Donegal residents woke to the ground moving as a minor earthquake shook the Fanad Peninsula.
Around 6.45am a quake measuring 1.5 on the Richter Scale occurred north-east of Milford on the Fanad Peninsula. There are a number of reports by residents in the area around Milford who felt the event.
According to the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies events of these nature are not uncommon in the region. The largest recorded earthquake in the area was a magnitude 2.2 and occurred near Clonmany in November 1994.
