Drowning woman saved by brave police officers in Belfast

The quick response and efforts of two police officers saved a woman from drowning last night in the River Lagan in Belfast.

Emergency services were alerted around 10pm last night to reports of a woman in the water around the back of the SSE Arena.

The Portaferry coastguard team were on their way to the scene to assist when they received a message to stand down. A PSNI Officer and Harbour Police Officer had dived into the water and rescued the woman.




Their heroic efforts were praised by fellow emergency services and volunteers. The Portaferry Coastguard team commended the officers saying “The quick thinking of the two police officers made this incident a good outcome, well done!”
