Careful now! Wave almost sweeps child away in Portstewart

The weather’s taking a bit of a turn with increasingly cold and windy conditions expected in the coming days and weeks, so if you’re visiting a pier or walking by the coast, take sensible precautions!

A leisurely walk by the coast in Portstewart, Co Derry at the weekend almost ended in disaster when a wave crashed in and almost swept a child away.

In a moment, the water rushes in and the small child is knocked off his feet and almost taken back out by the receding water.

Fortunately, the man was able to maintain his footing and they both escaped a potentially tragic outcome.
