With the blue skies and a (supposedly, allegedly, according to a single source of dubious origin) heat wave on the cards, it’s the perfect time to get out there and enjoy the best summer festivals the Irish coast has to offer. The festival season that has been slowly ramping up over the past few months so we put together a low down of the best festivals and events this June. Diaries at the ready!
Maritime festivals galore!
Celebrate Ireland’s great maritime heritage with one of the many maritime festivals all around the country this June. From Dublin Port Riverfest to Cork Harbour Festival, Rosses Point Sea Shanty to Fastnet Maritime Festival, Volvo Round Ireland to Wexford Maritime Festival, there’s so much on you’ve no excuse to check at least one of them out.

Ireland Bikefest Killarney 3rd- 5th June
In its 10th year, Bikefest is Ireland’s largest free open biker festival. Grab your helmet and enjoy the spectacular Kerry coastline on guided and self-guided ride-outs. The Bike Village will be the hive of activity with traders stands, markets, food and entertainment. They will be plenty of live music on the stages as well as bike shows, parades and novelty dog show!

Doonbeg International Jazz Festival 3rd – 6th June
Set in the heart of West Clare Doonbeg International Jazz Festival will be celebrating its 17th year bringing together bands from Germany, USA, Scotland and all over Ireland for an action packed weekend of entertainment any Jazz fan will love.

Wildlife Weekend 9th to 12th
Coming this June is Ireland’s first ever Wildlife Weekend. The project will showcase the unique and wonderful wildlife and heritage of five of Ireland’s islands, Cape Clear, Inis Mór, Clare Island, Tory Island and Bere Island. It’s the perfect chance to get away to the islands and there will be a whole load of events including boat trips, dolphin spotting, nature walks, local food and craft and evening entertainment.
Also taking place over the weekend is Island BioBlitz 2016 – where wildlife experts and members of the public join forces to see which island can record the most species of wildlife over a 24 hour period. Go on, get involved!

60th Westport Sea Angling Festival 22nd – 26th
Celebrating its 60th year, this festival has firmly established itself as one of the most prestigious events on the angling calendar. And this year is set to bigger than ever. Anglers from all over Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and the Netherlands will be descending on Westport to participate in the four day event. Anger of all levels ad ages are welcome to come take park.

Waterford Viking Marathon 25th June
More than just your average marathon this has more of a festival feel with live bands and djs helping the participants along, as well as family entertainment, food stalls and much much more. The route will go along much of Waterford’s historic Viking City and then head out to the seaside town of Tramore and finish at the Regional Sports Centre.
